The much-anticipated car in the segment, Renault’s Kwid has been launched in the country today with an additional 1.0-litre engine option. This new 1.0-litre Kwid is introduced in two variants, RXT and RXT (O). Both the trims are come with the price tag of INR 3,82,777 and INR 3,95,776 respectively. This additional powertrain gives a price hike to the Renault’s small wonder of the INR 22,000 over the regular 0.8-litre models.
An entry level car really makes sense to the Indian auto segment owing to an affordable price and deal with the much congested roads. With the continuously increasing demand of small hatchbacks in the country, Renault has earlier been rumored for working on a new powerful version of the Kwid that has now finally out in the country. The 1.0-litre Kwid made its first public debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February and garnered positive reviews. The specifications of the 1.0-litre engine include 999cc, 3-cylinder, DOHC unit which is tuned to churn out the 68 PS of power at 5500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque. Only a 5-speed manual transmission will be mated to the engine at first, while automatic gearbox option will join the group near in future. With the re-tuned engine configuration, the ARAI approved fuel efficiency is rated at 23.01 kmpl against the 25.17 kmpl of the regular model.
Furthermore, some exterior body changes have also been done to discriminate the unit from others. It includes dual-toned grey coloured ORVMs, designer chequered decorative stickers on the side, and the “SCe” named badge on the boot lid. However, in terms of size and shape, the 1.0-litre Kwid remains identical to its forerunner model.
From inside, the Kwid 1.0L features no changes with the regular siblings. As the 1.0L is only offered in top-end trims, RXT and RXT (O), it gets all the top specs such as dual-tone dashboard, chrome surrounded centre instrument panel and side AC vents, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming, USB and Aux-in facility, two front speakers, and front power window.
Safety features for the car as well as occupants include remote keyless entry with central locking system, high mount stop lamp, engine immobiliser, and seat belt for both front and rear occupants. Some other optional features are a drive side airbag and the pro-sense front seat belt function.
Moreover, the 1.0L Kwid is available in five different body colour options namely, Ice Cool White, Fiery Red, Moonlight Silver, Planet Grey, and Outback Bronze.
