BS-VI Emission Norms To Hike Two Wheelers Cost by 10-20 percent

The Indian Government is all set to reduce toxic particulates emission in the environment by the implementation of more cleaner BS-VI emission norms by the year 2020. In the first stage of BS-norms transition, they are just targeting the two and four wheelers manufacturers in the market. From the reports of the estimates ratings agency ICRA, the two wheelers are likely to get hike of 10-20 percent with the introduction of BS-VI emission norms.

The concluded increase in cost will be the resultant of updation on bikes and scooters to contaminate less. Currently, most of the running two wheeler onto the Indian roads use carburettors. To adhere the harsh BS-VI emission norms, every two wheeler have to be equipped with an electronic fuel injector.

Post-April 2016, all the new bikes sold in India must comply the BS-IV emission norms. Existing models need to be tuned as per the latest BS-IV emission norms latest by April 2017.

Electronic Fuel Injectors fitted bikes will cost roughly more by Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 9,000. This cost could be diminished once the manufacturers begin the local assembly of EFI on the bikes. However, the localisation is not being anticipated soon.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways wants to embrace BS-VI emission standards to match the pace with the global European Union emission norms. There are few names like Hero Glamour FI, TVS Apache RTR 160 Fi,Yamaha YZF-R15, etc. that are EFI equipped models and are available in the Indian market.
