Diesel Ban in Delhi Extended Further More

It seems like there is no sign of relief to the automakers planning to resume the sale of their 2000 CC diesel vehicles in the Delhi region. As of now, the Supreme Court has once again extended the ban on the sale and registration of new diesel vehicles which lie above 2000cc until the next hearing, which has been scheduled on the 9th May 2016. The diesel ban was imposed from December 16th, 2015 till April 30th, 2016, which showed concern about the rising pollution level in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Supreme court has also urged all the diesel taxis to stay away from operating in the area from the 1st of May. However, if the diesel taxi owners convert to CNG, then they can be liable to drive in the region. But, the prohibition will continue until they convert the fuel into CNG.

Diesel Ban in Delhi NCR Region

Some reports reveal that the diesel ban has impacted the auto industry by a huge margin as the manufactures are unable to sell their vehicles and the sales has dropped by up to 41 percent. Some automakers has started developing small displacement cars for the region, while others has started to opt petrol run cars.

During a special hearing on the Delhi air pollution, Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur stated, “We are conscious and firm about our order. This argument of having liabilities will not hold good. Ply these vehicles wherever you want to but not in Delhi-NCR.”
