India-Made Ford Figo Christened as KA+, Launching This October in UK

The India made, second generation Ford Figo, will be sold as Ford KA+ in UK, from October this year. The hatchback will be exported to UK from Ford India's Sanand manufacturing plant located in Gujarat. It will be available with a starting price of £8,8995( Rs 8.72 lakhs). Booking have already begun in Ford UK and the first car lot will be delivered in October 2016.

The engine powering the Ford KA+ will be the 1.2 four cylinder engine, which is closely related to the 1.25 engine found in the Fiesta, but is cheaper to make. The hatchback is available in two engine options engine- 69bhp and 84bhp. However, the higher version 89bhp will be available in UK. No transmission options have been specified as yet. The engines are mated to a five speed manual and six speed DCT gearbox.

According to Darren Palmer, Ford’s head of B-car projects, the higher output, 10295 GBP(Rs 10.13 lakhs) is expected to be most popular, but even the entry level car is well equipped.

Its standard features include six airbags, a smart phone docking system, hill start assist, a speed limiter and Ford’s Sync voice activated phone and audio system. It also includes front power windows and ORVMs along with central locking. Ford KA Plus Rear

The new model has been revised for Europe. Headroom of Ford KA+ is 42mm higher than the Fiesta, sits on the same 2489 mm wheelbase (because it uses Ford’s global small car platform) and, at 3929 mm in overall, is only 20mm shorter. The KA+ is the third in the KA series of Ford, but it achieves economies of scale, because it is already a volume selling model in India, Mexico, Middle East and South America.
