The Swedish renowned luxury carmaker, Volvo has recently introduced the next-gen XC90 and the all-new S90 sedan, and will soon come up with the mid-sized crossover-SUV, the XC60. Although most of the car is hidden behind the plastic cladding and stickers, the bit exposed details suggest that its size and shape ideology could be inspired from the new XC90 SUV. Also, the XC60 is based on the same SPA platform that not only underpins the XC90 and S90, but the V90 Cross Country as well that is expected to launch in India in 2017.

Coming on the design front, not just the shape and size, the new XC60 also gets the similar design clues from its elder sibling, Volvo XC90. The bit uncovered front fascia of the car describes the same vertical slat grille and sleek headlamps housing Thor’s Hammer shaped DRLs (Daytime Running Light). Moving on the sides, the XC60 appears to be smaller than an SUV and more than a crossover. It features black-walled tyres mounted on the new black alloy wheels. At the rear, the car will probably retain some of its design theory from the current generation model such as curved tail lights.

The new platform also helps in increasing the overall size of the mid-size SUV. The new model appears to be bigger in size than it current version that will further increase the room for the rear occupants as well as boot capacity. Besides increasing size, the new platform also helps in reducing the overall vehicle weight and hence, improves performance and efficiency.
Beneath the front-end, it is rumoured that next-gen Volvo XC60 is expected to be fitted with a range of turbocharged 4-cylinder engines that includes a 254 hp 2.0-litre petrol mill. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also on the cards that will come with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which is paired with an electric motor and produces a combined output of approx. 250 bhp. The car is expected to hit the global market by the end of 2017 or early 2018.
