After launching successfully the sixth generation Elantra in India, the South Korean automaker Hyundai has come up with an automatic variant under the hood of its much in demand premium hatchback, Elite i20. It is available on sale at the price of INR 9.02 Lakh (Ex-showroom). Besides, an updated version of the i20’s Asta (O) version equipped with six airbags has also been introduced to the market in both petrol and diesel mills. Where the former is priced at INR 7.76 Lakhs and the later cost for INR 9 Lakhs (Both Ex-showroom).
Comes with only Magna trim, the automatic transmission is fitted with a 1.4-litre four cylinder petrol motor that churns out 100 PS of power at 6,000 rpm along with 132 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power will be sent to the wheels through a 4-speed automatic unit. Although it might not be a sporty gearbox, still it doesn't make i20 any less from the others. Talking about the Asta (O), the variant will continue to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine options.
Compared to the regular Magna version, which has a 1.2-litre engine, the new AT unit is generating more number in terms of the power and torque, however, the fuel mileage is same as the regular version. Top speed now stands at 180 kmph instead of earlier 170 Kmph as well as taking only 11.9 seconds to accelerate it from 0 to 100 kmph against 13.2 seconds with the standard variant.
When it comes to features, it houses dual airbags as a standard attachment along with a 2-DIN music system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth support, 4-speakers, ambient lights, steering mounted controls and 4 power windows. Apart from these, the cabin has also been attached with a cooled glovebox and rear AC vents. Some of the missing features such as ABS, EBD rear parking sensor, touchscreen AVN, height-adjustable seatbelts, automatic climate control, rear camera and alloy wheels might pop up a second thought in the mind of buyers to purchase this one.
