India has welcomed two most awaited compact sedans by Honda and Hyundai. Rather there is long list of sedans in Indian market; these two brands are the most trustworthy car manufacturer in this elegant segment. Here we are going to have some talks upon Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze.

The Xcent is based on the most popular 'car of the year 2014' Grand i10. Hyundai has launched this cheapest sedan in the affordable price range and seems to give a tougher experience to its buyers.

The Honda Amaze is re-launched with new variant 'S' and has the most fuel efficient feature that can make it loveable to those buyers who want good mileage cars.

We are describing the most relevant features here that can help the customer for long lasting decision.

Price Range: When the talks come to the prices of cars, a little difference can be seen here among both the cars. Hyundai Xcent has beaten Amaze with a slightly little price. The Xcent petrol prices between 4.6-7.19 lacs, Amaze petrol is available in 4.9-7.5 lacs.

On the other side, diesel variants of both the cars are not cheaper as the petrol versions. However, Xcent carries 5.56-7.38 lacs, the Amaze ranges between 5.9-7.4 lacs.

Engine Performance: The cars are equipped with petrol and diesel fuel units. While both the petrol based sedans are of 1.2 litres, technology wise, they differ. The Hyundai Xcent comes with 1.2 litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine that gives the max power and torque of 81.86 BHP & 114 Nm respectively. While the Honda Amaze engaged with 1.2 litre i-VTEC SOHC petrol commits more power but less torque of 86.8 bhp & 109 Nm respectively.

Talking about their diesel engines, Amaze is equipped with a powerful 1.5 litre i-DTEC DOHC diesel engine that produces the max power of 98.6 BHP and torque of 200 Nm. On the other side, the new Xcent comprises the diesel engine of Hyundai's ongoing hatchback Grand i10; it is 1.1 litre U2 CRDi diesel engine that produces the max output of 71.01 BHP and 180 Nm.

Engine transmission: Both the cars are paired up with manual as well as automatic transmission. The difference is that, the Amaze has 5-speed automatic transmission, while the Xcent has 4-speed AT. Whereas the manual transmission comes up with 5 forward and 1 reverse gearbox in both the cars.

Mileage: The Amaze proved as the chief in terms of fuel economy but the new Xcent emulates Amaze for this. Though Amaze diesel is more efficient than Xcent diesel but the petrol version in Amaze leaves itself behind. Statistically, the Xcent petrol car offers 19.1 kmpl & 16.9 kmpl, the Amaze petrol provides 18 kmpl. At the end, Amaze diesel car gives much better fuel capability of 25.8 kmpl than 24.4 kmpl of Xcent car.

Driving Performance: Hyundai Xcent is new to roads so much can’t be said about the car. But Amaze is most lovable car to its buyers as long as its customersget aggravated on the roads and known for smooth and comfortable driving. Instead it is needed to say that the Xcent is built on the platform of most ruling hatchback Grand i10 but performance wise it is not doing well. This new Xcent can be low performer but can’t be said that it is less competitive.

Interior Appeal: Hyundai has done a good job for Xcent's cabin which adds rear Ac vents, push button start-stop system, advanced 2-DIN music system with 1GB of internal memory, cooled glove box, etc. But Amaze gets only daily requirement features. We can say that Xcent scores better in interiors.

Exterior Appeal: Outside looks make the Amaze much superior and stylish than the new Xcent. Hyundai has launched this car with outdated looks. The Amaze is more magnificent in comparison to Xcent. However Xcent has made more curves but it couldn't beat the Honda’s new sedan.

Driving safety: In terms of safety, Amaze is safer than Xcent by having features like ABS with EBD, dual front SRS airbags, immobilizer. Xcent also adds safety accessories like ABS (EBD is missing), dual airbags (SRS is missing), rear defogger.

Verdict: Hyundai Xcent Pros:

  • More approachable than Amaze.
  • More petrol efficient.
  • Richer in interiors and comfort features.

Hyundai Xcent Cons:

  • Diesel variant is not much powerful.
  • Exterior looks disappoints.

Honda Amaze: Pros:

  • Powerful diesel engine.
  • Better fuel efficiency.
  • Attractive stunning look.
  • More safety features.

Cons: Rich interior features are missing.
