India Bound Mercedes Benz GLC at Frankfurt Auto Show

After unveiling the all new GLC model at the 2015 GIIAS held in August, Mercedes has again put this SUV on display at Frankfurt Auto Show. Earlier, the automaker had announced a campaign “Year of the SUV” that includes various utility vehicles like GLE, GLE coupe and the soon to be introduced GLS. It will be carried on the Modular Rear wheel drive Architecture (MRA) that forms the basis of C-Class range of models. For the Indian market, this car will be replacing the GLK and will arrive by the second half of 2016.

Exterior

The exterior portion has been adorned with numerous appealing and stylish elements. Standing on 20-inch alloy wheels, its fascia highlights a dual slated chrome grille flanked by Mutibeam LED headlights on either side. It also carries LED DRLs and a pronounced character line marked on the sides across the length of the car. At the rear end, it receives horizontal LED tail lights, a roof spoiler and a pair of exhaust tips. This upcoming model will be offered with an off-road as well as an AMG Sport package.

Contributing to the interior beauty and comfort is a long list of modern equipments. A flowing centre console is trimmed in gloss wood while the seats get an Artico leather upholstery. Comand Infotainment system with navigation facilities is also present. Besides, there is a three-spoke steering wheel, AC vents with silver accents and a Head Up Display for driver's convenience.

Engine

Its mechanical configuration comprises the same engine lineup that does duty on the C-Class sedan. The powertrain options of diesel and petrol will be on the offer packed with a 2 litre, 4-cylinder unit. Transmission will be taken care of by a 9-G automatic gearbox, linked to an AWD mechanism. Mentioned below are the different variants of this SUV with their power outputs:

  • GLC 220 d with 170 Hp/400 Nm
  • GLC 250 d with 204 Hp/500 Nm
  • GLC 250 with 211 Hp/350 Nm
  • GLC 350 e plug-in hybrid with 327 Hp
