Mahindra S101 Might be Named As YUV100

Mahindra's next offering codenamed S101 is due for launch in the next few months and it's still a secret as to what name it is going carry. There were anticipations about some probable options like XUV100, KUV100 and CUV100. And now, another name has popped up, which is YUV100. Well, atleast the term “UV100” is confirmed! The SUV has been spotted so many times with and without camouflage that the features have been almost revealed. Amidst all this confusion, while everyone is busy in speculations, we choose to wait till the company itself reveals the official name.

The upcoming crossover will be powered by a 1.2 litre diesel engine rather than a 1.5 litre unit. This motor will be mated to a five speed manual gearbox along with an AMT unit that will be offered as an optional facility. Another engine option that will be available is the 1.2 litre petrol unit. The petrol mill will return 18-19 km/l of mileage, whereas the diesel unit could offer a fuel economy of 22-23 km/l. Both these powertrains have been developed by the joint efforts of Mahindra and Ssangyong, which will be manufactured at Chakan plant along with the S101.

Some important features that will be seen in this vehicle include LED daytime running lights, music system accompanied by Bluetooth and AUX connectivity with touchscreen facility, vertically stacked AC vents, steering mounted audio controls, dual front airbags, ESP, EBD and ABS. The retail price is expected to be around INR 4 Lacs (ex-showroom) and it will rival the models like Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Elite i20.
