And after the long waiting period, the most anticipated hatchback of the year has finally made its way to the Nexa Dealerships in India.

The largest automaker of the country, Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the Go-Fast version of the popular hatchback Baleno - the Baleno RS in India at a price of INR 8.69 Lakh. The performance oriented Baleno RS can only be availed in the range topping Alpha trim of the standard Baleno.

The sporty Baleno RS has been higher in demand since it was first Showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February last year as a concept. Plus, its elder sibling, the Baleno hatchback has already achieved the highest sales milestone, indeed still has a waiting period over a month or two.

Engine Details -
The major update lies beneath the hood of the car. With the launch of Baleno RS, the carmaker has introduced an all new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine. Fitted under the bonnet of the Baleno RS, it is a detuned version of the one which is currently being offered with the Baleno in some international markets.

Although it makes 111 hp on the global variants, for the Indian market it produces the maximum power of 102 hp along with the peak torque of 150 Nm.

Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox as a standard, while no option for the automatic as of now. The track-oriented Baleno RS is also fitted with disc brakes at all four wheels.

Competition -
On the rivals, the Baleno RS has registered the carmaker’s entry into the performance-based hatchback segment which already has the Volkswagen Polo GT and the Fiat Punto Evo Abarth - the most powerful car in the segment.
