Maruti Suzuki will recall Swift, Dzire and Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki, leading car manufacturer of the country will recall around 1.5 lac units of cars including Swift, Dzire and Ertiga. According to a report submitted by automobile giant to the Heavy Industries and Road Transport Ministries, that they will recall three models that are Swift, Swift Dzire and Ertiga manufactured between 12 November 2013 and 4 February 2014.

These cars are recalled due to problem in fuel neck defect, which means that the fuel cap can't be screwed down properly which leads to chance of fuel loss through evaporation and odour leakage into the cabin. The variants that are called includes both diesel and petrol variants with maximum number of models are Swift (47,727), secondly Swift Dzire (42,481) and Ertiga (13,593).

Previously, company had recalled 13,157 units of the diesel variants of Dzire, Swift and Ritz due to some faulty engine part in April 2011. Due to some problem in steering column, company had recalled 1,492 models of Swift, Dzire, Ertiga and A-Star, produced in October 2013. Company's biggest recall was in February 2010 when around 1 lakh A-Star hatchbacks were recalled due to faulty fuel pump.

This recall will be the biggest recall for the company ever and it is the third recall for the Swift Dzire, the second largest selling car in the country. Company officials stated "Our suppliers of fuel filler neck had carried out a repair in his machine after a breakdown. After repair, inadequate setting resulted into improper screw shape. Due to the above, there is a possibility of fuel smell and in extreme condition fuel may leak if it is filled upto to the fuel can level".
