Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV Price and Fast Charging Specs Out

The demand for electric vehicles is increasing significantly in the automobile segment. Maruti Suzuki, the leading car manufacturer is working upon Wagon R EV which is all expected to unveil in 2020 in the India market. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is likely to be priced under Rs 7 lakh including subsidies that are to be provided under the FAME- II Scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) in a bid to promote hybrid and electric vehicles in the Indian market. After including the subsidy, the on-road price of electric Wagon R is likely to be around Rs 7.5 lakh which is based on the current FAME scheme.

It must be noted that the price of an electric vehicle could be revised again after the introduction of the FAME 2 scheme in India which is to be introduced in the near future. As per the current FAME structure, the consumers will get the subsidy around Rs 1.24–1.38 lakh on the purchase of Wagon R EV. However, the subsidy amount is to be deducted from the total amount and ultimately the consumers will have to pay less money at the time of purchasing EV.

Maruti, country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) will roll out its first EV in 2020. The hike in demand for electric vehicles in the hatchback segment has consequenced in almost all manufacturers come up with electric car versions. Maruti Suzuki would be launching the electric vehicle version of the famous hatchback Wagon R.

All the specifications are not yet unearthed but some vital information has been exhibited which includes the addition of DC fast charging in addition to AC charging.

Introduction of DC fast charging in addition to AC charging will claim 80% charge in an hour which is indeed fast as compared to standard AC charging which takes 7 hours. As far as charging infrastructure is concerned Demo Wagon R EV car is consist of two charging inputs – frontal one is for AC charging while the one at the back is for DC charging. The fast charging speciality will be a big advantage on the Wagon R which will increase the flexibility in its usage.

The car manufacturers have already presented approx 50 Wagon R EVs on demo across the country. The demo cars are prototypes, but the ultimate variant for sale will look different which is expected to be identical in appearance to the conventional engine Wagon R.
