Next-gen Nissan Sunny Underdevelopment; Expects Global Debut in Coming Months

All-new Nissan Sunny which is getting ready for real-life scenarios has undergone road testing. In the global market, it will compete with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna in the sedan segment.

Stylewise, the next-gen Sunny appears sharing styling cues from the Nissan Lannia sedan concept. The prototype was exhibited a few years ago and now it's available to retail in China. While the new sunny will highly be inspired from the China-spec sedan though the rear door and boot design will be more conventional in lieu of making sedan more in line with the ongoing Nissan sedans sold abroad.

At the skin, the spied test mule abroad was furnishing a sculpted front fascia with a large motion grille integrated nicely with the front bumper. Among other highlights, the new Sunny sedan is sharply styled and has a chrome grille outline as appeared on the Nissan Kicks. Additionally, the side profile sports a large glasshouse with a larger rear door and a floating roof design is also expected with the production-spec Sunny.

Dimensionally, we expect the next-gen Sunny model will be longer by around 680mm the Current-gen Micra as similar to setup noticed in the previous-gen Sunny with around 630mm longer than its same generation Micra. As far as the wheelbase considered, the new Sunny to get a 2,700mm wheelbase which will be around 175mm longer than that of the Nissan Micra.

The next-gen Sunny will rest on an updated V platform being shared via the hatchback models on sale abroad like the new Micra, Note and the Kicks. FYI, not to be mistaken with the India-spec Kicks as it based on the underpinnings shared with other Renault-Nissan models.

Inside the cabin, there will be a number of attributes like the seats, dashboard, steering wheel and switchgear, to be shared with Nissan Kicks and Micra in order to keep pricing in check.

Under the hood, we expect Nissan to load the next-gen Sunny with a 1.6-litre petrol engine from the Kicks crossover. The said mill is rated to make out around 114hp of maximum power. Nissan Sunny that is global spec model is available to retail in several countries though with a different moniker like the Almera or the Versa. We expect the debut of next-gen Nissan Sunny globally in the coming next few months.
