Nissan To Introduce Leaf EV In India By April 2019

It is confirmed now by the president of Nissan India, Thomas Kuehl that the 2nd-generation Nissan Leaf EV which was unveiled in 2017 and expected to introduce in the country in April 2019. Hyundai is also working to introduce the Kona EV in the country, but the Nissan has not revealed a solid plan yet in this regard. The company as well revealed that it is thinking to introduce the ZSe(electric version) SUV in the country.

The ZSe and Kona are the compact SUVs, whereas the Leaf is a hatchback. The Leaf measures more than 4,480mm in length, approximately 1790mm in width and a wheelbase of 2700mm. When comparing with the existing Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback in the country, it covers 4299mm of a total length and 1780mm wide which is less than the Leaf by 181mm and 10mm respectively. Although, the A-Class takes an identical wheelbase measuring 2699mm.

The Leaf takes power from a 150PS electric motor and you will experience the 320Nm of torque while pressing the throttle at first. It comes equipped with a 40kWh Li-ion battery which will run till 400km in a single charge. When we compare the performance of the Leaf with the A-Class which takes a 2143cc diesel engine, the Leaf ends with being more powerful to approximately 20mm of more torque and 14PS of more power.

The hatchback comes with ProPILOT autonomous drive technology which allows the vehicle to take control of steering, braking and acceleration while parking or driving on a highway. It is also equipped with the e-pedal tech which accelerates and decelerate the vehicle via a traditional accelerator pedal. The engine comes fitted with the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system allowing in-built navigation and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Nissan is likely to unveil a more powerful model of the Leaf in 2018 end which will be available with a long-range comparatively than the existing model. Although, it is not expected form the company that it will launch the new version in India as the company is already working to confirm the current version here.

The Leaf can be as an imported version, it will likely to cost below Rs 30 lakh. He also said that the company will bring down the new product launch cycle from 1 to 2 years to 6 months and customers will get the 2 to 3 latest models from the Nissan by the year 2019 end. Nissan is ready to introduce the compact SUV rivaling the Renault Captur and Hyundai Creta soon in the country. The Micra is also expected to get subtle updates alongside as well.
