Nissan Teases Terrano AMT on Social Sites, Hints Imminent Launch

Nissan India has recently posted a teaser video of the upcoming Terrano AMT on its social webpages. The video hints that carmaker can launch this automatic variant of Terrano SUV in India in a week or two. The AMT box on Terrano will the same 6-Speed Easy-R unit which is also used in its sister company’s Renault Duster. However, it might not carry the ‘Easy-R’ tag.

It was being expected from the beginning when Renault introduced its popular compact SUV, Duster with AMT option, Nissan will also add an AMT option to Terrano. Since both the cars based on similar platform, it makes easy to share the components to each other.

It became a trend to launch an SUV with an automatic transmission option, in the segment some of the Terrano rivals already have such option in their offerings like Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster. Moving towards the segment below vehicles, the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV 300 are even also offered with the automatic gearbox system.

With the additional AMT option, we can expect the Terrano to keep the competition high. However, the another major consideration aspect will be its price, the number of sales of the car will highly depend on at the price company launches the Terran AMT in India. This grand festive season will be the complementary for the carmaker and help in boosting the SUV sales.

Beneath the front-end, the current line-up of the Terrano SUV consists two engine option with three different states of tunes. The petrol-powered model gets a 1.6-litre engine under its hood which is capable of churning out the maximum power of 85 PS, while the diesel variant features a 1.5-litre engine which can produce the maximum power of 110 PS. Further, all the engine options are mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission and two wheel drive system. As of now, there is no choice for all wheel drive system, we can expect the AMT box for the top-end variants - XL Plus and XV Premium.
