While Porsche is getting a lot of hype these days for grabbing a larger pie in the automobile segment across India, the carmaker’s local counterpart has already started conducting the homologation process. A single unit of the 718 Cayman has been imported to the country recently. Besides, the automaker is likely to launch Boxster along with sports model in India this year.
Previously unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, the updated 718 Cayman has uncovered the wraps from the cosmetic alterations. However, they were not as revolutionary as they could be, still, managed to flaunt a fresh look against the predecessor. The car is all set to become the part of the entry-level ‘718’ line-up, which incorporates the Boxster as well. Bookings for both the models have been started by the German giant.
Coming over to the import details, only the standard Porsche 718 Cayman has been loaded to India for now, however, the company would import the S model soon. As far as the engine is concerned, the sports car comes mated to a 2.0-litre, in-line four, mid-mounted petrol engine that generates a peak power of 295BHP alongside 380NM of peak torque. Mated to the brand’s signature PDK automatic gearbox, the 1988 engine will perform the duties on the new 718 Boxster as well.
Defining the exterior, there are a bulk of updates on both, front as well as the rear panel. Redesigned projector headlights, new LED daytime running lights, fresh front bumper including wider front air intakes, revamped rear air intakes cover the major bits. While the stylish alloy wheels and imposed character lines are like icing on the cake. Heading towards the rear, the designers attempted for a cool look there as well, and, needless to say, they have conquered up to a great extent. LED tail lamps are joined with a single black slat with ‘Porsche’ written on it. The rear bumper also gets a new design.
