Production BMW X2 Will Come Up as its Concept Look

In order to expand its SUV lineup, the German luxury auto major BMW has earlier hinted a new concept design at the 2016 Paris motor show in the form of X2. Now, in an Auto Express fresh report, it is unveiled that the Bavarian automaker intends to design the upcoming X2 compact SUV into production without losing much of that unique styling.

This BMW X2 concept revealed at the Paris motor show appeared to be an enhanced sporty version of the second generation X1, earlier introduced in the global market and will be the sixth SUV offering by the company in the global market. Furthermore, it is going to be the second model after latest generation Mini Countryman that will be based on the highly versatile UKL platform.  Once arrive, it will fill the gap between the X1 and X3 in the company’s portfolio.

The source further confirmed that though the production version of BMW X2 will not house the concept design’s 21-inch alloy wheels, mirrors and headlights, it will sport the unique kidney grille the sharper fascia, angular roofline with the glasshouse tapering towards the back profile.

Beneath the front end hood, likewise to the X1, the new X2 will also get a host of transversely mounted four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options. On the petrol-powered X2 compact SUV, there will be a single variant in the form of the X2 xDrive20i, which carries a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor, capable enough for propelling the unit with a maximum power of 192 hp. On the other hand, the diesel-powered X2, all three variants will come fitted by BMW’s widely used 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel mill – the X2 xdrive18d with 150hp, the X2 xDrive 20d with 193hp and the X2 xDrive25d with 230hp.

On a later date, the company may also introduce a sporting M-Performance model which will feature a more heavily tuned version of the X2 xDrive20i’s turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine developing a maximum power around 304 hp. A standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission unit will get to see there along with the option of either rear- or four-wheel drive in combination with selected engines.
