Renault Teases Kwid in AMT Avatar

Renault India has recently hinted an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) variant for its much anticipated SUV-like shaped small hatch, Kwid by posting a teaser image of rotary gear selector knob. This same gear knob was spotted on the Kwid AMT model that was showcased at Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. The AMT is expected to be offered in both the engine options, Kwid 1.0 SCe and 0.8 SCe.

On the teaser image, the AMT gear selector knob has three modes namely, R (Reverse), N (Neutral) and D (Drive). One will miss the manual or sports mode here, as there are no such options. The Knob is located at the center console, next to the power window switches and leaves more space in the front row. Similar to the manual version, the Kwid AMT will also be paired with the 5-speed unit.

On the AMT version, the Czech automaker is also expected to introduce Creep or Crawl function which allows the car move ahead at a very slow speed (around 2-5 kmph) by simply releasing the brake pedal. This a quite helpful mechanics which gives smooth motion to the car especially in crawling traffic or in reverse gear. The AMT Kwid will also get the same ‘Easy-R’ badge which has also seen on the company's compact SUV, Duster AMT.

The carmaker is expected to introduce the AMT option on the top-end trim RxT of both the engine options, i.e. 1.0-litre and 0.8-litre. However, this new transmission option will cost around INR 40,000 to INR 50,000, in addition to the model price. Currently, the 0.8-litre Renault Kwid RxT model costs INR 3.75 Lakh (with driver airbag INR 3.88 Lakh), whereas the 1.0-litre Renault Kwid RxT model comes at a price of INR 3.97 Lakh (optional variant priced INR 4.10 Lakh). All the mentioned prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Renault will most likely launch the Kwid AMT in India by this month. When launched, the Czech maker will be battling it out against the Alto K10 AGS.
