As per the report, the fact came out that the two-wheeler ejects 4-5 times more NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) than a petrol car in India. As a result, the government is going to implement Euro 4 norms on two-wheeler from 2016 for the upcoming models of this year. Whereas, the extant models need to be upgraded by 2017. The automakers are opposing the Euro 4 emission norms, cause it will reduce the fuel efficiency of the two-wheelers.

The government proposed emission limit of Nitrogen Oxide is 0.08 gm/km for a petrol car. While 0.39 gm/km for a two-wheeler, cause it emits NOx equals to five petrol cars. The central government also notified the auto industry that it will implement BS-V, similar to the Euro 4 norms by 2019 to achieve the goal of clean environment. The NOx emission limit will be dropped 0.32 gm/km and be marked at 0.07 gm/km.

The other countries have overtaken us in terms of emission regulations and they are planning to implement Euro 6 emission norms by the end of the decade. So the government wants instant action in implementation of Euro 4 emission norms in the country.
