Lineup to the earlier news from Leica’s stand, the latest information to arrive is the introduction of new X-series cameras. The Photokina has received the X and XE cameras from the company. The flagship product X will be followed by XE, which was earlier known as X2. The brand is known for producing ultra refined and flourished equipments for best in the range photography experience, the new Leica X series cameras are much better with a new lens unit and sensor system than the earlier one. The engineering to develop a great photo shot has so much of finesse to discover the photographers’ real fantasy.
The Leica X has a 16MP APS-C CMOS sensor, which projects the images via Leica Summilux 23 mm f/1.7 ASPH lens. It also features f1.7 lens equivalent to 35mm terms to get the lens response faster than before. The 10 element unit construction of the afore mentioned 23mm lens is parted in groups of 8, out of which, two lenses are aspherical. The focus in auto mode detects the contrast automatically which is also assisted with manual focusing from a minimum distance of 20cm. the earlier X series cameras were not having a faster aperture unit and it was the most anticipated object from the camera owners and for people who are planning to purchase it. Leica has crafted their products for specifically still photography shooting, these gadgets were not having the function of videography, but the X can’t shoot movies with full HD resolution.
On the external hardware front, the dedicated dials and switches have been provided for operating the device with ease, but there will not be any touch responsive screen to deal with the menu list and real time maneuverability. Rather, a 3 inch LCD screen has been placed at the reverse end for viewer’s sake. The dials present for the adjustments have the functions of tuning aperture and shutter speed. the electronic viewfinder can be tilted for the varied angle of shoot and a dial is placed on side for diopter adjustments
The XE is the smaller unit in X series and boasts most of the features borrowed from X2. It also boasts the same 16MP APS-C sensor with F2.8 lens with 23mm in 35mm equivalent terms. . This lens unit is composed of 8 elements parted in 6 groups about of which one lens is aspherical. The contrast detection method used in the Leica X is also inherited over here with 11 focus points. The ISO sensitivity of the product is 12,500, with an ability to shoot at 5 frames per second. The rear panel is availed with a low resolution 2.7 inch LCD screen at 230k dots. Alike the X, this one also has dedicated dials for various adjustments, while the flash can be popped out of the circular housing. The front and real body of the X be made up of magnesium alloy while the bottom and top be aluminium material. The price of this Leica X is set to be $2,295 and that for XE is $1,795.
