Google Unveils Chromebit in India for Rs. 7,999

At the Google event for India New Delhi, Google CEO Sundar Pichai delivered his keynote. In the event Google’s Vice President, Product Management, Caesar Sengupta launched the Asus Chromebit. It is a pocket computer that runs Chrome Operating System. This compute stick will be launched in the country in January at price tag of Rs. 7,999.

Asus’s Chromebit is a candybar sized PC on stick, which allows the users to upgrade their old PC’s get a faster, Chromebook like experience. This PC stick runs on Google’s Chrome Operating system. It is a Plug and Play device that connects via HDMI port and users can connect an external keyboard and mouse.

The Asus Chromebit, which looks similar to the Intel Compute Stick. It is powered by Rockchip’s RK3288 quad core SoC and coupled with 2GB of RAM and has the inbuilt storage of 16GB. This device was launched globally at a price tag of $85 (roughly Rs.5,700). For the connectivity, it has a USB 2.0 port, and the Chromebit supports Blurtooth 4.0.  There is no memory card slot expansion provided in the device for the expansion of storage.

Asus claims that its Chromebit boots fast and can easily access the playback of 1080p videos on the big screen. In this the users also get free 100GB of Google Drive storage. The unique feature of the device is that, it can be plugged into a dumb monitor or a TV and turn it into a smart device. By having this, you can browse Web on it, run applications, edit your documents and watch movies. Soon in India, Asus will also be launched two Chromebooks, but we’ve not much more details for this.
