Broadband Connectivity In All Indian Village Panchayats By 2018

The Central Government of India is confident of accomplishing the mission of Digital India by providing broadband system across 2.5 lakh village panchayats in the nation by 2018. The telecom secretary J S Deepak on Thursday vowed about the same and mentioned that the Government is taking all necessary steps to achieve this goal. Talking about Bharat Net program, which expects to give broadband availability to all panchayats in the nation, Deepak said all panchayats will have an ecosystem that will facilitate the connectivity and bridge the digital divide in the country.

The telecom secretary J S Deepak further added that all town panchayats in the nation will be connected through fiber optic system by 2018. It's worth mentioning that the Indian Government had set December 2016 as the deadline for the digitalisation of all village panchayats of the nation.

Broadband connectivity to bridge the digital divide in the country

J S Deepak said all this at the Global Exhibition on Services in Greater Noida. Deepak said the pace of digitisation is quickening, however, a great deal still need to be finished. The Telecom Secretary highlighted three zones that required attention to bridge the divide- connectivity, language and digital illiteracy, and said the government and industry must work together to address the same.

Deepak also mentioned the difficulties in terms of languages and said that at present a large portion of the versatile interchanges are occurring in English but by January 1, 2017, smartphones will be empowered for English, Hindi, and one local language.
