In an attempt to increase windows 8 users, Microsoft is planning to launch a free or low cost version of Windows. According to the media reports "Microsoft is currently experimenting with a free version of Windows 8.1 that could boost the number of people using the operating system".
Though there is no official confirmation from the company but it is rumored that a new version of 'Windows with Bing' could be given away at a Developer’s Conference in April. 'Windows 8.1 with Bing' is an OS that could have key Microsoft Apps and services. The low cost version of Windows will be lightweight version of Original, bundled with Microsoft Apps.
The theory behind providing the low cost or free software is to convince windows 7, XP and Vista users to upgrade their systems, which will help the company to improve its market share. As the massive loss in income can be subdue by pushing more users towards services like Bing, One Drive and office.
There is also some other ways to improve the income as if company provide windows 8.1 for free. Some revenue can be gained from One-Drive (Sky Drive) and Skype subscriptions. Microsoft is also working hard to make Bing more than a web search engine.
