GST Side Effect: Indian Retailers Not Ready to Accept Nokia 6, Nokia 5 Stock

Nokia, the Finnish smartphone manufacturing firm launched its new series of Nokia branded Android smartphones in India with full enthusiasm and has successfully rolled out Nokia 3 across the country earlier this month. But now, it looks like the company will have to wait for rolling out the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones in the Indian market, as the offline retailers have refused to stock up the goods considering the initial fluctuations under GST.

The Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones were expected to be available in the first week of July, but looking at the current circumstances, there can be a delay as much as a few weeks after GST is launched in the country. According to a report, the Indian retailers want to clear their entire stock as a measure of precaution. Still, HMD Global has stated that the pricings of the smartphones have been fixed considering the GST, so they will not have to change it after the implementation of GST.

A senior Nokia executive said, “The Nokia 6 and the Nokia 5 prices already take into account the GST tax rates. The GST rollout will not affect the prices of the Nokia phone that have been announced so far.” The Nokia 6 will be available with a price tag of Rs 14,999, whereas the Nokia 5 will be seen with a price tag of Rs 12,899.

As we can see that the delay is just because of the offline retailers, it is hard to pinpoint a specific date for the smartphone availability. However, we can just assume that the smartphone will be available after the GST implementation and accepted by the retailers. The company and its products are completely ready to compete in the Indian market but are solely waiting for retailers to start taking deliveries.

Apart from this, a number of offline as well as online retailers are providing various discount offers under pre-GST sales during the last week of this month. The GST is going to be implemented by July 1, 2017, and is expected to take almost a month to settle with the market flow.
