Face Unlock has been one of the hottest features these days in the smartphone industry. HMD has announced an over-the-air (OTA) update for Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018), which will implement face unlock feature in these smartphones. The smartphones were launched by the company in April this year.
As of now, the company has not mentioned any timeline for the face unlock feature launch but reported that recently launched Nokia series of smartphones including Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 plus, the new Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 will get an OTA update as face unlock feature in the coming months. It is worth noting that Nokia X6 was launched in China in last month with Face Unlock Feature.
Finnish based company has confirmed OTA update via Twitter in response to an individual who asked regarding the face unlock feature for Nokia 8. The Nokia Mobiles answered, “Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 plus and the new Nokia 6, as well as the Nokia 8 will get face unlock as an OTA update in the coming months." Face Unlock Feature will surely be accompanied with existing fingerprint scanner that is based on a built-in sensor which allows the users to unlock the smartphone.
Face Unlock feature is something new for Finnish based smartphone manufacturer company. Initially, it had offered this feature in the Nokia X6 that was launched in China recently and now, the company is planning to offer this feature in other existing Nokia smartphones as well. Smartphone manufacturer companies such as Asus, Huawei, and OnePlus offered the facial recognition technology in their existing models via OTA update. Likewise, players like Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi commenced providing facial unlock feature in their latest offerings.
Interestingly, HMD Global is famous to offer the latest Android operating system in its Nokia smartphones. Last month, the company had announced Android P operating system that would soon be available in all Nokia smartphones launched till now.
