Nokia Reveals $60,000 OZO Camera to Make VR More Real

The Finnish company Nokia who was once a global giant dominating the cell phone market has now come up with another product called OZO, a brand-new high-end, professional-quality camera that as per the company will become the standard for shooting VR in every field be it the film industry, sports, news or music industry.

For VR to succeed, it’s essential that those aforementioned industries have access to good tools for creating top-notch content. With the release earlier this month of Samsung’s Gear VR, and the launch over the next half-year of higher-end systems like the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and Sony’s PlayStation VR, one can expect the dawn of VR era for the mankind, and it is obvious that with time more and more users will demand content that justifies their purchase of VR hardware.

The shipment for this product starts in Q1 of 2016 and it require a mere $60,000 with $5k down payment up front if a user wishes to buy one for himself. Along with the price, the reports have also revealed the full specs of the device which state that it uses eight synchronized 2K x 2K camera sensors, which record to a 500GB solid state drive that can hold up to 45 minutes of footage. As per Nokia Technologies president Ramzi Haidamus "Nokia is aiming for the OZO to be an essential tool in the creation of those billions of dollars in content by combining the ability to record both video and sound in 360 degrees. That’s something says will make the Ozo a category-definer, and a game-changing device that enables a deeper human connection and empathy between storyteller and the person seeing the experience.". He further adds that:
"Sound is at least 50% of that dynamic and that the only way for me to get you to look behind you, or to the left of you or the right of you in VR is with directional sound".
