Will Karbonn-Lava compete high with Windows Phone based smartphones?

Lava and Karbonn are planning to launch their budget smartphones in coming months. Their smartphones will be based on Windows Phone OS. Karbonn will launch its devices in the price range of Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 12,000.

Lava will present its domestic smartphones with a price tag of Rs. 6,500. Karbonn's MD Hari Om Rai said, "We will come out with four devices with Windows-based operating system by the end of May or starting of June in the price range of 6,000-12,000."

He added, "We expect the Windows-based phones to represent 8-10 percent of the volume of Lava smartphones starting July-August."

Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processors will be used by Lava's Windows Phone based smartphones and support Windows Phone 8.

Xolo is also expecting to unveil its series of smartphones in the coming quarter. One of Xolo's spokespersons said, "We at Xolo believe that Windows OS has certain goodness to offer for a certain market segment and it will help Xolo reach a desired 15% share of the smartphone market by end of 2014." 

To aloft the competition from Apple's iOS and Google's Android, Microsoft is proposing license free Windows Phone OS for any of two smartphone makers of India. As figures shown by IDC, stated that Microsoft's Windows Phone had 3 percent shares in smartphone shipment while Android had 78 percent.
