LeEco Up for Reseach and Development Centre in India

LeEco, the Chinese electronics firm has introduced two new smartphones in India dubbed as Le 1s and Le Max. The smartphones are priced at Rs. 10,999 and Rs. 32,999 respectively in the Indian market. Just after the launching of the smartphone company has announced to set up its Research and Development centre in India. LeEco has planned to open about 555 service centres over 300 towns of the country.

The company's official revealed that with this planning, company aims to be among the top three competitors in the smartphone segment by 2017. For its R&D cell, it will be hiring almost 1,000 people by the end of this year. These centres will works on product for India as well as for global markets. In the first sale of its Le1s smartphone, LeEco claimed that its mobile has received 300,000 pre-sale registrations on Flipkart.

Atul Jain, COO of Smart Electronics business at LeEco India said that “We believe Indian technical prowess is very high. We would like to give opportunity to them as well as benefit from their expertise. He also said that we have planned very big investments in India.”

Back in December, the Indian Cellular Association (ICA) revealed that Chinese tech giants are looking for establishing a manufacturing base in the country with investment of worth $2-$3 billion over the next two years. As per the association, this type of investment will be able to generate jobs between 1-2 lakhs of people.

The company was showed its presence in the very first year by selling 4 millions of smartphones and three millions of TV in China last year. LeEco is also planning to launch its television models in India during April-June.

“We are open to the idea of our branded stores and touch and feel offline model. We have already opened over 500 services centres across the country. We want to be a leading player. We want to be among the top three players in India in a year’s time in the smartphone category. This will be driven by our products, the ecosystem that we bring in and our pricing,” he said. It is going to be challenging but the “initial response” for the products the company introduced in India has made LeEco confident of achieving its target”, Mr. Jain said.
