Nasscom, the Indian IT industry trade body has entered into partnership with the giant social media platform, Facebook. The main aim of this venture is to build a 'product design initiative' in order to promote product design ecosystem in India. The 'Product Design Initiative' is a flagship programme of Nasscom Product Council. It is targeted towards supporting more than 500 product startups on product design along with more than 5,000 product designers over a time period of 2 years.
As per Mr Ravi Gururaj, Nasscom Product Council Chairman, “The Design Initiative will aim to build and diffuse a design culture across our ecosystem, link up with academia, recognise outstanding designs and overall ensure India's software products delivery delightful customer experiences.”
Nasscom believes that though our country is at an inflection point to build technology products and solutions, it lacks focus on design. It has planned to offer focused programs to spread awareness on product design, training on design tools, awards, design lab, design sprints as well as mentorship.
Mr Julie Zhuo, Facebook Product Design Vice President was quoted as saying, “We are passionate about design and would like to work alongside industry to foster innovation in product design in India, a country known for great technology and engineering talent.”
