Samsung Unveils New SSD Having 2 TB Capacity

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 is just around the corner and the South-Korean company Samsung has now unveiled a new compact solid state drive, the Portable SSD T3 having a whopping storage capacity of 2TB unlike before. It is the successor to last year launched SSD T1 which marked the entry of the company under this segment.

The biggest attraction of the Portable SSD T3 is its storage capacity of 2TB since its predecessor SSD T1 came in three varieties of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. The new SSD also comes with a range of other features such as a USB Type-C connector and a shock-resistant metal case and will be up for display at the CES trade show event later this week. If sources are to be believed, the company is offering a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable in the retail box.

If we look at the overall design of the new SSD, we would observe that the company has completely ditched the plastic casing in favour of metal, which makes the device both strong and heavier. However, due to design changes the 2TB drive weighs just 51 grams as per the company. The company also claims that the metal case can withstand up to 1,500G of force and has the ability to survive a drop from up to 2 metres. There's also an integrated Thermal Guard which can prevent overheating of device.

The Portable SSD T3 offers privacy features too as it supports AES 256-bit encryption.. It is compatible with Windows 7 (or later), OS X 10.7 (or later), and Android KitKat (or later). The 1TB version of Portable SSD T1 is roughly priced around $600 so it might affect the overall price of SSD T3, but the company is yet to reveal the exact price. As per the company, it will make the SSD T3 available in selected regions including the United States, China, Korea worldwide starting February 2016.
