Twitter Blames a Software Bug for the Recent Outage

Just yesterday Twitter Inc. officially announced that they have recovered from the recent outage problem and the website is now working smoothly all over the world. When probed for the reason, the company blamed a software bug for its widespread outage and stated that the issue has been eradicated by reverting the glitchy software update. They further added that the problem arisen because of some internal code modifications which has been fixed now.

To those who aren't aware, yesterday, the Twitter site went down for more than nine hours in various parts of the world, majorly affected areas included Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America. However, Europe was the first one to report the issue that was later confirmed by other parts of the world. As far as the reports state, the problem originally started at 0800 GMT and continued till 1800 GMT.

Twitter users showed their discontentment openly on Twitter since they kept complaining even after the company issued an official statement. If reports are to be believed #twitterdown was trending on the entire day, though many of the lot kept questioning about the fact that if Twitter was down in major parts of the world, then how can it be trending all day long on the charts.

The recent problems which the company has been undergoing in past few months have affected the overall business of the company as well, since just after the outage went viral, Twitter shares went 7-percent down incurring a loss to the company. Adding fuel to the fire, Square Inc. which happens to be the second company of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey too suffered an 8-percent loss in the shares. Not just shares, but the company is not observing any considerable hike even in terms of both the revenue generation nor the number of users reason of which is Instagram - another photo-sharing Android app which surpassed Instagram by over 100 million users in a short span of time adding to the woes of Twitter Inc.
