YouTube Offline Playback Rolled Out for India

Finally, the search giant, Google has announced offline video playback for YouTube in India. Earlier, company has unveiled about this amazing feature during the launch of Android One smartphones in September, which is now congruent with Android and iOS based mobiles.

Vice President of Engineering at YouTube, John Harding has stated that 85% population of India connect to Internet through a mobile phone before any other device as well as they receive 40% traffic from mobiles. By introducing buffer-free version of YouTube, they want to help mobile-first users that are facing problem with data connection, speed and cost and to make it as enjoyable as possible.

Notably, now people can choose to add the video for playing offline, by tapping on the offline icon. After that, they can opt between standard or high definition video quality for downloading and storing and obviously WiFi or cellular connection will be needed to download the videos. Once taken offline, users can watch buffered content without an Internet connection for upto 48 hours.

However, content will be automatically vanished from Offline section of YouTube app after 48 hours. But, it can be kept for offline viewing even after the deadline by timely connecting the device with internet. Whereby, offline videos will remain accessible and won't be deleted during the status verification, which is done by YouTube app time-to-time.

Apparently, this new quest of tech giant is currently available only on mobile devices in specific countries such as India, Indonesia and Philippines.
