Bookings Open: Hero Motocorp Promised Xtreme 200R With Standard ABS

Hero MotoCorp promised a 2017 launch of its Xtreme 200S. However, not all promises can be kept and same was the faith of the Xtreme 200S. At the back of a series of delays in the launch of Xtreme 200S, earlier this year the company unveiled its new offering Hero Xtreme 200R was at a media event in Delhi. One glance at the new offering and it is crystal clear that the bike is a face-saving attempt from India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Hero MotoCorp claims that the Xtreme 200R is almost production ready but the company is tight-lipped on the price tag as well as the launch date. This coupled with the scrapping of Xtreme 200S leaves a whole lot of unanswered questions and raises concerns about the commitment and vision of the company. We hope that Xtreme 200R does not meet the same faith as Xtreme 200S. Bookings for the Xtreme 200R are open now, however there is still a veil of mystery over the possible delivery period. Let’s now give you an in-depth information about the features and specifications of the Xtreme 200R which has taken almost 2-3 years in the making.

The Mandatory ABS

Xtreme 200R will have a single channel ABS unit. The new safety regulations effective from this Financial Year mandate the presence of ABS in all motorcycles with 125cc engine or greater. This will bar Hero Motocorp from introducing a lower-spec non-ABS version of the Xtreme 200R.

The Not So Impressive Engine

The new offering from the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer scores little on its power capacity. A single cylinder 4 stroke 200cc motor powers the Xtreme 200R. The engine churns out 18.4 PS of peak power at 8000 rpm and 17.1 Nm of maximum torque at 6500 rpm. It is the lowest in its segment.

The engine was originally developed by Honda which was reportedly the partner company of Hero Motocorp till 2011. The partnership bloomed during the 90’s and became known for presenting fuel efficient bike for the Indian Audience. The Xtreme 200R borrows its engine from the Achiever 150 cc which was Honda’s motor. Reportedly, the company has launched a fuel injected version christened as Hunk 200R in Turkey. The Indian bike lovers, for the time being, will have to be happy with carburetor fed engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Key Features and Expected Price

The Xtreme 200R tries to match up to the design and look of other bikes in its segment. The fuel tank with the red-themed Xtreme moniker looks impressive but there is little that gives it an edge over others. The Xtreme 200R will come in five dual tone color variants Panther Black with Cool Silver, Charcoal Grey with Orange, Techno Blue, Panther Black with Red, Sports Red.

On the safety front, the bike will have standard twin disks i.e 276mm front disc and 220mm rear disc brake. The 130mm rear radial tire must enhance stability. The balancer shaft promises reduced Engine vibrations in Hero ’s first 200cc motorcycle in India. The Xtreme 200R falls behind its rivals when it comes to acceleration. The company’s claim of 0-60 kmph acceleration in 4.6 seconds is below normal standard. Further, the Top Speed 114 kph could sway away 200cc sports bike lovers. Going by the reports, the Xtreme 200R will come with a price tag under 1 Lakh.
