Datsun SUV Is Confirmed For India Launch

Datsun is working on to bring new models and facelifts in India in order to approach with renewed efforts. Thomas Kuehl, president, Nissan India Operations, mentioned in a statement that the company will launch new models for new segments, comprising an SUV taking a Datsun badge. He exactly said, "You will see a Datsun SUV under Rs 10 lakh. I can’t say more but I promise you it will be a killer in the market.”

However, the information about the reveal of upcoming SUV is not out yet officially, the vehicle is expected to take inspiration from the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-A platform. The new Renault MPV is also expected to take the same platform and likely to launch in the 2nd quarter of 2019. The Datsun SUV will not be more than 4-metres in length and will get Crossover styling. The SUV will take power from a 1.0-litre engine, a turbocharged model while the diesel unit will not be available with the SUV.

According to the company strategy to include the models under Rs. 10 lakh under Datsun badge and products above that price under Nissan product line, the compact SUV will get the Datsun brand name. Introduced in 2014, the company has not received so many accolades and has passed through tough time to attract customers and inability to update the product range in time seeking a tough competition. Although, the festive season, which is known for increasing the car purchasing, will notice an increased activity in the Datsun camp, headed by the introduction of the Go and Go+ facelifts. Kuehl mentioned, “At the moment, we don’t have a strong product portfolio, so we are trying to fix that.” He further added, “Yes, our lifecycle management is not the best at the moment, but you will see that we will have a major event every six months from this festival season onwards.”

The updated Go and Go+ will get updated sports styling and loaded features like the new front seats and a new touchscreen which add a premium touch to these company models. Particularly, the company will concern about the safety of the Go and Go+ facelifts. Both the products are about to get upgrades like dual airbags and ABS, they are also expected to get Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) or the best Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

The company will also introduce the special edition of the Redigo small car, as per the Kuehl, “We have a special version of the Redigo coming in during the festival time. I’m very positive that, with the things we are doing with the Redigo and the successor model, we will have a major impact in the segment.”
