Fourth-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLE Caught While Testing

Recently, BMW revealed the lighter, powerful and larger 4th-gen X5. Now, spied images of the competitor are available on the internet. Although, the Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected to arrive till the year-end with an updated version. The 3rd-gen GLE or M-Class was launched in 2011. Later the company changed the name of SUV to GLE as per the new nomenclature of the company along with a facelift in 2015.

The test mule is spotted in minimal camouflage assuring the new 4th-gen GLE looks. The new design of the SUV is inspired from the 2018 CLS and all-new A-Class. Similar to the two, it also gets new angular headlamps and a new single slat grille. It gets large air dams on both sides, updated front bumper, sleeker tail lamps and the fewer character lines.

The side profile is not changed significantly. Although, it obtains the revised C-pillar and prominent wheel arches as compared to the foregoing version. The design element and rear quarter glass are the same.

Coming to the interior, as the images reveal it will get the E-Class-like dashboard layout, four AC vents, a twin floating screen. However, the central floor console doesn’t look apparent, expect the infotainment system with a touchpad-like control unit. It will as well get Mercedes’ new MBUX system available in the new A-Class.

The anticipated SUV is likely to get powertrain from the current E-Class. The sedan had three powertrain options including a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing 258PS/620Nm, a 2.0-litre diesel motor producing 194PS/400 Nm and a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing (184PS/300Nm). All three come paired to the 9-speed automatic transmission of Merc’s 9G-Tronic.

The 4th-gen GLE is likely to reach the market later this year. Therefore, we expect the SUV to reach India sometime around in 2019. The current-gen GLE is available with a price tag of Rs. 66.48 lakh to Rs 77.05 lakh in India. The GLE will compete the Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar F-Pace, Volvo XC90, Porsche Macan, Audi Q7, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the BMW X5 in the market after the launch.
