Honda Plans Production Of 10th-gen RHD Accord In 2019, To Be India-Bound

Honda brought the Accord nameplate back in 2016 in the country along with a high price tag and further excessively increased after GST implementation on hybrid models. The previous generation Accord is available at a price tag of Rs. 43.21 lakh, which is more costly as compared to the Audi A4 and the base BMW 3 series. So, there is no surprise why Accord could not open its sales account in the April 2018.

Till now, only the LHD (left-hand drive) models of the next-gen Honda Accord were under development because the Japanese carmaker aimed this model for China and the US markets. However, it is expected to change soon as Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia has mentioned in a report, "There just isn't any right-hand drive production. That will change and we're likely to source our cars from Thailand."

He thinks that the Accord is a vital version for the Japanese manufacturer instead of a frequent reduction in sales figure in Australia. Mentioning further regarding the Australian market, he said that electrics and hybrids have not reached in Australia yet. The same is happening in India as well. But the trend is expected to get momentum seeking strict environmental policies along with the good infrastructure to assist the electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in India.

Honda Accord Interior

We also expect from the company to bring the 10th-gen Accord in India as well. The next-generation Honda Accord is likely to introduce in Australia at the 2019 end and we expect from the model to reach the Indian shore at the same time. It could be one of the six models from Honda that announced to launch in India in upcoming 3 years period from 2018. The first car among six models is the second-gen Amaze which is recently launched in India. The next two are expected to be the new Civic and the new CR-V.

Honda Accord Exterior

The existing Honda Accord is available for sale in India as a CBU unit (completely built-up) and it is likely that the next-gen model will be imported to India if it launches. Similar to the existing model, we as well expect from the company to launch a hybrid version of the 10th-gen Accord in the country.
