Honda Celebrates 15 Lakh Cumulative Sales In Two Decades On Indian Roads

Honda’s YOY sales curve have been something that rival auto manufacturers would like to emulate at the earliest. Recently, Honda crossed the 15 lakh units sales mark since entering the Indian Market in 1998.

In fact call it coincidence, 1998 was also the year when Ishirō Honda’s Godzilla hit the theatre and won the heart of the Indian Audience particularly teenagers. If it was a Japanese Filmmaker than, 20 years on it is a Japanese Automaker winning Indian Hearts with its amazing offerings like the Brio and Jazz hatchbacks, Amaze, City and Accord sedans, and BR-V and CR-V SUVs.

A look at the sales stats and we can be assured of more greater sales milestone ahead for the company. Here are a few highlights:

  • It took 14 years for Honda to roll out the First 5 lakh Units on Indian Roads.
  • It took only 3 years to hit the next 5 lakh Units mark i.e by 2015, Honda had sold 5 Lakh more units.
  • 3 more years later in 2018, Honda continued the magic on Indian roads by hitting the 15 lakh units cumulative sales mark.

Star Performers have been the premium sedan followed closely by the Amaze and the Honda Jazz. Rajesh Goel, senior VP, and director of Honda Cars India said in a statement, “The success in the Indian market is strongly associated with Honda's advanced design and technology, reliability, durability, and fuel-efficiency that characterizes our DNA”.

Honda also recorded a 9 percent increase in sales for the current fiscal period i.e April-August 2018. When compared to the figures for the same period from last year. Reportedly, Honda sold 79,599 units in India during this period.

India SUV lovers are waiting impatiently for the next-gen Honda CR-V SUV which is touted to offer a diesel option too. The launch is on October 9, 2018. It would be interesting to see though how the new Honda CR-V SUV performs in a tightly contested Indian SUV market.
