Jeep All Set To Make Official Entry in India; First Two Models Will be Grand Cherokee And Wrangler

After frequent delays, the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automotive) has finally confirmed the India Launch date of one of its popular division, Jeep. The leading off-road SUV manufacturer across the globe, Jeep will flag-off its India-mission by unveiling the prices during a two-day event which will take place between August 31 and September 1.

Initially, Jeep will put two models on sell namely, the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. Both the models will make their way to the country via CBU (Complete Built Unit) route.

Jeep Brand India Launch on September 1

While the Grand Cherokee SUV will go head-to-head with the luxury SUVs in India mainly, Audi Q7, BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS, the special-made for tough-roads SUV, Jeep Wrangler does not have any direct competitor in the Indian market.

A few days ago the Jeep revealed the variant details of the upcoming models on its Indian website. Starting with the luxury SUV, the Grand Cherokee will be sold across the country in three trims namely, Limited, Summit and the performance-oriented STR. However, the ‘STR’ will also be marked as the Indian debut of performance brand by Jeep.

Taking a look at the power figures, the performance-based powerful Grand Cherokee STR comes with a 6.4 litre HEMI V8 motor under its hood that is tuned to generate a massive power of 475 bhp and a peak torque of 630 Nm. As the name of the engine ‘HEMI’ defines itself, making use of hemispherical cylinder heads in order to give better internal combustion.The acceleration capability enables the Cherokee to complete a sprint of 0-100 km/h in just 5 seconds.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

While considering the powertrain of the Limited and Summit variants, both the models are powered by a 3.0-litre CRD turbo V6 diesel engine which is tuned to produce a maximum power output of 240 bhp and a peak torque of 570 Nm. In all the three Grand Cherokee variants, power is transmitted to all four wheels via an 8-Speed automatic transmission.

Jeep Wrangler

On the other hand, the retro-styled Jeep Wrangler is designed to perform seamlessly and offer amazing ride quality on all kinds of terrain. It is said to be a complete off-roader as it comes with a ground clearance of 238 mm. Under the hood, lies a 2.8-liter diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 197 bhp and a torque of 460 Nm. It comes with additional value added equipments such as solid axle and differential locks. The engine gets mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system, powering all the wheels.

At the Initial phase, the FCA owned Jeep brand will begin its India journey with around five or six dealerships across the country and planning to grow the network in near future.
