KTM to Terminate Duke/RC by 2016 End, New Models Hit in 2017

KTM, the Austrian Motorcycle manufacturer, after making an appealing presence in the Indian entry-level motorcycle segment since its initiation in 2012, has announced that it won't be continuing with the production of existing models anymore by the end of the next year and will come out with the new models in 2017. KTM CEO Stefan Pierer, in an interview with CNBC-TV 18, affirmed that the former models of 200/390 Duke and RC200/390 will be substituted with all new machines grounded on new engine specifications. Bajaj Auto, the majority shareholder and partner of KTM will do the job in collaboration.

As per Pierer's words, “The naked bike family, we call it Duke, from 125 cc for the European markets up to 200, 250, 390 cc, we are going to launch the second generation. It is a totally new bike based on improved engine platform which anyway Euro IV is showing up in Europe in 2017 and even the Indian regulations also very similar. Then design-wise and other components you will see a new generation naked bike.”

Nevertheless, assuming the specs of the upcoming models at this stage will be too early. But, having a review of everything that the automaker has presented in the past, it is quite predictable that some nice products will be in line soon.
