Mahindra Aims to Handle Diesel Vehicle Ban with Alternate Plans

The alarming situation of rising pollution in Delhi has become one of the most talked about issues lately. The authorities are taking some strict decisions, which are not being appreciated by many citizens. However, it's not only the people who are getting affected, but the automobile companies are also paying a heavy price for this. Recently, the Supreme Court has decided to temporarily ban the registration of new vehicles fitted with a diesel engine that displaces more than 2000cc in Delhi-NCR region. As a result, Mahindra (popular for diesel cars) is now looking for alternative plans to tackle this situation.

Mahindra Scorpio

As Mahindra's XUV500 and Scorpio are both sold in diesel variants, the company is planning to introduce the cars in petrol engines, but that won't be possible for the next few years. Though the Scorpio is offered in petrol variant, but that is only for the export market. Since Indian customers prefer diesel cars over petrol, the company doesn't offer the latter one here.

However, till the automaker implements its plans, it is thinking of some alternative solution to handle the situation. At the event, which marked the digital display of KUV100, Executive Director, of M&M, Mr Pawan Goenka said that Mahindra is making efforts to downsize the vehicles displacement to less than 2000 cc. As per the official claims, there are over 1,000 Mahindra vehicles in the NCR region, which will have to be shifted to another markets owing to the ban.

On one hand, the company realises how important it is to take measures on increasing pollution and is ready to abide by the laws, but on the other hand, Mr Goenka also suggested that it's not fair to declare diesel as the sole polluting factor. There are indeed many other ways to control pollution, which can be adopted keeping in mind the practicality of the idea.

As far as the efforts of the company are concerned, apart from the above mentioned measures, the automobile giant is even planning to divert the bookings for XUV500 and Scorpio to the newly launched TUV300 and the soon-to-arrive KUV100. Well, all we can say is, the people are already annoyed with the new laws and now if they will be told to switch from the car they want to the car that they might like, things may get even worse. It's like offering Idli Sambhar to a person who has ordered for Dosa. Even if the Sambhar is common in both the dishes, the customer always has the choice to switch to another restaurant. Wink!
