Yamaha Recalls YZF-R1 and R1M to Replace Faulty Oil Delivery O-Ring

The Japanese motorcycle marque, Yamaha received complaints of defect in the oil delivery pipe O-Ring from the U.S. Market in its Superbikes, Yamaha YZF-R1 and R1M. The automaker decides to recall its defected motorcycles over potential fire risk. Yamaha stated the total of 146 bikes of the earlier mentioned R1 variants are affected by this faulty O-Ring. The dealers have also been adviced to stay in touch with the owners of the affected motorcycles.

Yamaha officially stated in its recall,” it is possible for an oil leak to occur from the O-ring on the oil delivery pipe where it enters the engine case because of improper assembly of the components. If a leak occurs, oil could leak onto the exhaust and in extreme circumstances the oil could catch fire”. The motorcycle maker promised to replace faulty oil delivery pipe O-ring without any charge.

Its second time when Yamaha recalled its flagship super sport bikes. The earlier recall was to fix an electronic Ohlins shock absorber issue at the rear end of the motorcycles. This rear suspension issue has also been fixed free of cost by the manufacturer.

Yamaha's one of the power and performance motorcycles, YZF-R1 and R1M share the same displacement engine of 998cc. The Liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, 16-valves, 4-stroke and DOHC engine propel the max power of 197.2 BHP at 13,500 RPM and vertex torque of 104.7 BHP at 10,000 RPM to touch the scale of 299 KMPH. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission.

There is still no news from the Indian arms of Yamaha, about any affected motorcycle from the faulty Oil delivery pipe O-ring issue.
