Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV Imported to India

Maruti Suzuki has recently imported two units of its upcoming 7-seater MPV named Wagon R to India for undertaking some Research & Development. This model (code-named as YJC) will be priced at a higher rate than the hatchback version by more than INR 80,000 to INR 90,000. In the company lineup, it will be positioned below Ertiga model. The transition from a five-seater hatchback to a seven-seater MUV is definitely going to benefit the company in targeting a wider customer base. Moreover, it will be longer in dimension so as to occupy more passengers when compared to its hatchback sibling.

The cars imported consist of diesel and petrol variants housing a 0.8 litre, twin cylinder DDiS and a 1.2 litre K-Series unit respectively. The former is capable of churning out maximum output of 47Bhp and 125Nm, whereas the other one has the capacity to develop 83.11Bhp at 6000rpm of maximum power and a peak torque of 115Nm at 4000rpm. It is being speculated that the petrol mill of production spec could be replaced with a 1 litre, 3-cylinder K-Series unit, under the hood.

Since the concept of this upcoming model has been already unveiled at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) one can clearly anticipate what will it look like. The platform as well as wheelbase will be the same as the regular version, while the overall size would be enlarged. After its launch, this Maruti Offering is all set to rival the Datsun Go+. The company is planning to manufacture 80,000 units of this seven-seater annually at the Gujarat production plant.
