Mercedes-AMG G 63 Awaits 5th October India Launch

Mercedes had unveiled the updated top-spec AMG badged G 63 at the Geneva Motor Show. Sources now confirm that the performance SUV would dawn the Indian Roads on October 5, 2018. Underhood, the German Automaker has tweaked and reworked the compelling specs on the retiring model to offer a more potent than ever performance on the G 63.

The body outfits of the new G63 are cast in Aluminium and also the G 63 rests on a wider ladder frame chassis when compared with the outgoing model. This makes the new G63to command greater comfort and stability owing to the increased rear legroom as well as overall width. (150 mm and 210mm respectively). Another key update is the greater ground clearance on the new G 63 that promises navigation across testing cross country landscapes. Few key features that the new G 63 borrows from its immediate predecessor include:

  • The AMG grille with vertical elements.
  • Extended Front Bumper bottom-infused with matte-silver kick-plate.
  • Standard 21-inch alloy wheels
  • Side Mounted Exhaust Pipes with the rear door opening.

The Cabin gets a makeover with a new set of front seats and a foldable rear bench that when desired can increase boot capacity. The dashboard also sees new design adoption coupled with the signature Mercedes-Benz’s Widescreen Cockpit. While Cockpit has analogue instruments as standard, one can also opt for upgrade digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment display.

Under the hood, the new G 63 AMG comes powered by the 4.0-litre, twin-turbo petrol motor. The 5.5-litre V8 engine that powered the outgoing model has also been retired. The replacement has clocked better power and torque output figures at 585hp and 850 Nm respectively. The new mill will be a 4WD and transmission duties will be performed by nine-speed automatic transmission via the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Some other highlights of the new twin-turbo petrol motor include:

  • 0 to 100 kph acceleration in staggering 4.5sec.
  • 0.9sec faster from its predecessor
  • Nominal Top Speed of 220 kph.

This top-end premium feature mill will hit the roads with a Rs 2.19 crore price tag. This makes the Mercedes-AMG G 63 considerable costlier than its immediate rival Range Rover Sports SVR (Rs 1.97 crore). However, Mercedes, for now, must be little concerned with price. The new flagship SUV from Mercedes will instantly attract those who love speed, class and power. And none of these as we all know come features.
