The ongoing Frankfurt Auto Show recently witnessed the preview of Mercedes Benz Concept IAA model. The luxury automaker has displayed a four-door coupe concept named as IAA, that stands for Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile. This name itself suggests that it is going to be a highly efficient vehicle in terms of aerodynamics. With its drag coefficient rated at 0.19, this sedan has set a new world record. Although the production ready car might not offer the same figure, but it is still being considered as a significant achievement by the company.

The concept makes an excellent use of aerodynamics by extending the exterior portions of the vehicle on the press of a button or automatically as soon as it reaches to the speed of 80 km/h. When the aerodynamic mode is activated, a total of eight segments present at the rear portion are stretched out, thereby adding 15 inches of extra length to the model.
The flaps of front bumper extend up to 25 mm and the rear bumper stretches to 20 mm. Moreover, the wheels also adapt their cupping from 55 mm to 0 mm while the angular slats at the front bumper move backwards by 2.3 inches that aids in handling the airflow below the car.
Power of source for this luxury is a hybrid setup that has the capacity to churn out 279 Hp and allows the coupe to go up to maximum speed of 155 mph. Once fully charged, it will cover 41 miles in aerodynamic mode and 38.5 miles in the design mode.
