Next-Gen Yamaha YZF-R15 To Receive Improved Performance and Safety

The Japanese auto major's Indian subordinate- India Yamaha Motor, has cut the ribbon of a new R&D centre in Chennai. It is company’s second innovation centre in the country and has been set up to offer fresh and updated arrivals in both the motorcycle and inducing scooter segment. This newly established R&D facility as per the reports is clearly indicating the advent of more India-specific vehicles embraced with cutting-edge technologies and features.

In the Indian market, Yamaha has left somewhere behind in the field of performance for which it has been renowned across the earth. The hunger of offering something new and distinctive every time in this emulative market may be a major reason behind this lag in the range of performance products. The most popular in the range- Yamaha YZF-R15 has also not been updated since a long time.

So to find out various answers regarding Yamaha’s further strategies and its roadmap for India, Mr. Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt Ltd (YMRI) has been questioned at an Interview conducted by Financial Express. Where Mr. Yasuo has confirmed the arrival of a new YZF-R15 that will be more modernized in all aspects like performance and safety. As a fact the ABS equipment is mandatory from 2018, the upcoming R15 will be more powerful and comes fitted with ABS.

Furthermore, the top honcho has not revealed any power figures and expected introduction of the vehicle in the Indian auto mart. For now, the ongoing Yamaha R15 version boasts a 149.8cc, 4 Valve, SOHC engine that is capable of generating 17PS of power and delivering the torque of 15Nm with the constituted six-speed gearbox transmission.

MR. Yasuo Ishihara quoted saying while interview, “The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety. We also want to extract as much as possible from a motorcycle to give maximum value-for-money for our products.”

The forthcoming iteration of YZF-R15 is likely to hit the Indian market as assumptions sometimes in next year. The price tag will also be quoted with a confirmed higher price as of the ABS and other new featuring expected on the bike.
