Tata Zica Hatchback Gets a New Name, Tiago

The recently previewed Tata Zica was eventually surrounded with controversy regarding its name. The Zica word finds similarity with the dangerous “Zika Virus”, which has been affecting millions of people based out in Latin America. So, finally the company official decided to call off the name and rename the hatchback. At first, the automaker conducted an online poll, proposing three names- Civet, Adore and Tiago. Finally, Tiago got shortlisted among the three names, and from now onwards, Tata Zica will be known as Tata Tiago. The interesting part is that the Tiago name seems to be derived from Tata Motors' brand ambassador Lionel Messi's son “Thiago”.

Formerly Known as Tata Zica

Taken as an alternative to the popular Indica, the Tiago will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol mill is capable of delivering 85PS of power and 114 Nm of torque. while, the all-new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo diesel churns out 70PS and 140 Nm. Both engines come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The scheduled launch of the car got postponed because of the name issue. The carmaker had no other option rather than just renaming the car and schedule the launch later. The new Tata Tiago is likely to be launched within a month. Once launched, it will rival against Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai i10 in the B-Segment. It is expected to be priced between INR 3.90 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
