Toyota New Yaris Cross To Get Automatic Transmission

Toyota has launched the new Yaris Cross at the international market. Destined firstly at emerging markets, this new hatchback is the rugged version of the Yaris. Recently, the car maker has started pre-booking of the Yaris in India with a refundable payment of Rs. 50,000 and expected to deliver in May 2018 with the launch on April 2018. The variants namely the V and the VX have been showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and the company may launch the G or GL variant in future as well.

The new Yaris Cross obtains new kind of muscular crossover styling on the exterior side. At the side, it takes black cladding, roof rails, a brush metal skid plate at the front and rear bumpers, and wheel-arch moldings. Inclusion with higher trims takes an HD instrument cluster, automatic climate control, leather seat upholstery, contrasting red stitching on the steering wheel, two additional speakers and gear knob. The safety kit takes curtain airbags, a driver’s side knee airbag, and side airbags.

The new hatchback is powered by a four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, 1.5-litre petrol engine which is able to churn out 108hp of power and 150 Nm of torque. The engine of the Yaris Cross comes mated to either a seven-speed CVT automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. Surprisingly, the similar engine will possibly power the Indian Yaris Sedan, although the gearbox can be a seven-step CVT automatic and a six-speed manual. Nevertheless, the India-spec Yaris Sedan will compete with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz mid-size sedan, and Honda City.

If the car gets an automatic transmission on offer, it will be the first mass-market car to get it from base to top variant.
