India-Specific New Volvo S60 Unveiled

Volvo, revealed the new S60 sedan at Charleston plant in South Carolina, United States. The new sedan is manufactured on a Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) of Volvo. Henrik Green, research and development boss, Volvo, mentioned, "The active chassis and driving modes deliver excellent control and an engaged platform that makes this a drivers car".

The S60 is 1,431mm in height, 2,040mm wide and 4,761mm in length, along with measuring a wheelbase of 2,872mm. The car comes with an integral axle at the back and double wishbone front suspension. Along with an option of 4 petrol engines comprising two plug-in hybrids with it, the S60 is expected to launch by 2019. There is no diesel engine option, although the company is thinking to bring the electrified versions of new models by next year.

The plug-in hybrid engines of the S60 comprises supercharged 2.0-litre T8 Twin Engine generating a peak power of 390hp along with the 303hp petrol powertrain running the front wheels and further, the 65kW electric set up running the rear axle. The model generates 640Nm of peak torque and able to touch 100kmph in just 4.9sec along with the top speed of 250kph.

The T8 Twin Engine is available with a ‘Polestar Engineered’ performance revision, designed by new performance sub-brand of Volvo. The revision comprises a tweaked engine ECU to enhance power to 415hp, updated suspension, brakes and wheels. The Polster Engineered S60 generates a peak torque of 670Nm and reaches 100kmph in 4.7sec along with the same top speed of 250kph.

The entry-level S60 takes 2.0-litre turbocharged T5 producing 250hp output via running on the front wheels. The vehicle is able to reach 100kmph in just 6.5 sec from idle position. A T6 supercharged AWD along with a plug-in hybrid option is also available. All engines come mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

With the exterior styling and SPA platform, the S60 uses Sensus Connect infotainment and V60’s safety systems. This comprises optional City Safety autonomous braking ability and Pilot Assist system.

In the global market, the S60 will use a new Care by Volvo subscription service, permitting the people to render a monthly payment to use the cars without owning it. We expect the new S60 to reach in Indian shores sometime in 2019 after the global launch.
