Volvo XC40 to Unveil at 2017 Shanghai Auto Show

According to the recent reports, Volvo is going to attend the biennial Shanghai Auto Show with its all-new entry-level crossover called XC40. The car is reportedly the production version of the 40.1 concepts which was earlier displayed at an event at the automaker’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. The overall design is expected to be toned down, except features like the muscular-looking front end, the curved beltline, taillamps etc.

The entry-level crossover will ride on the company’s new (CMA) Compact Modular Architecture platform. It is the same platform that is expected to underpin the Lynk & Co 01, a mid-size SUV from Geely Automotive which owns the Volvo Car. Both vehicles are likely to be built alongside one another in a shared manufacturing facility in China. The Volvo XC40 is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit generating 180 Bhp, a 2.0-liter four cylinder turbo motor producing 240 Bhp and a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid that is good enough to make run the unit with a power of 250 Bhp.

Well, it is too soon to pass any comment about the car, albeit, if the rumors turn out to be true, the car will go on sale before this year end. Once launched, it will lock the horns with the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA that are currently ruling the segment.
