Volvo’s Biggest SUV To Be Assembled At Bengaluru In 2019

Volvo announced that they are thinking of locally assembling the plug-in hybrid of its SUV flagship, the XC90 at its plant in Bengaluru.

Earlier in 2019, Volvo launched the T8 Inscription variant of the XC90 which was the standard, top-of-the-line seven-seat XC90 with a hybrid engine. More luxurious XC90 T8 Excellence are retailed by Volvo and both the variants are shipped in as CBUs (Completely-built units) at this time, but by the end of 2019, for both the variants, the Volvo is aiming to commence local assembly.

Further, Volvo also stated that over the next three years they are planning to introduce four new plug-in hybrid models in our market and a new all-electric model, which will come to India soon after its launch in other countries.

The XC90 T8's 'Twin Engine' setup pairs a 2.0-litre, supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 320hp with an 87hp electric motor. Total output stands at 470hp and 400Nm of torque and through an 8-speed automatic gearbox, drive goes to all four corners, with the powertrain powering the front wheels and the electric motor powering the rear. Acceleration from 0-100kph in 5.8 sec and an all-electric range of 40km for the T8.

And rest of the package is same as Volvo XC90 Inscription diesel. Standard features like a panoramic sunroof, a 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, four-zone climate control, air suspension, a head-up display, ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery to name a few are included. The safety features include- seven airbags, radar-based adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, city braking system and many more. The EXcellence is a true luxury variant; one with only four seats, retractable touchscreens for each rear passenger, a refrigerator, a crystal gear shift knob and many more.

The price for both XC90 T8 variants is expected to be most probably the same. Currently, the T8 Inscription costs Rs 96.65 lakh and the T8 Excellence has priced at Rs 1.31 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).
